Satellite TV is an innovated idea where signals are received via an outdoor parabolic antenna usually referred to as a satellite dish and a low-noise block downconverter. A satellite receiver then decodes the desired television programme for viewing on a television set. Receivers can be external set-top boxes, or a built-in television tuner.
Sky TV has many features which enhance how people use their product. They have Sky Store which allows people to go on their Sky Box and purchase new movies, which have just came out of theaters or new on DVD for a low price where you can rent a movie for 24 hours for a lower price than a DVD or cinema ticket. Sky also have Sky Q, a New service where you can record TV Shows and Movies than ever before. You can even save your recordings to other devices such as a smartphone, where you can watch anywhere and anytime without internet connection.
Virgin also has similar features where you can rent and purchase new movies on their store system. They also have a feature which benefits many people where you can access Apps such as Netflix and YouTube. Which is a bonus to many people who have a Netflix account as they will have everything in on box instead of having multiple devices.
Film is being made with new innovative technology where VFX is coming more intricate and allowing more effects being used for a better viewing for an audience. An example would be The Dark Knight's opening scene. It was shot and filmed with IMAX equipment which was the same as the following Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises. When it shows inside the airplane this shows how much the quality of content has improved over then number of years.
Streaming Content & Providers: There are many different services for streaming content around the globe. In certain countries they have their own services. Such as the United Kingdom have On Demand services such as BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, Demand 5, 4 On Demand all catch up services for many UK channels. The USA have their own such as Hulu, Showtime, HBO Now and CBS All Access.
There all also many services which are available worldwide such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. These are the most popular two offering some of the Newest Movies & TV Shows released but also having their own Original programming. Netflix have original TV Shows such as Orange Is The New Black and Riverdale. Amazon Prime have their original programming especially the popular "Grand Tour" which is New and Exclusive to the service.
High Definition is better quality imaging which is better than standard. It has two different options of HD from 720p, 1080i to 1080p. It allows people to watch Video in a High Quality. They also have invited a Quality which is better than 1080p, which is exclusive to either Cinemas or certain TV's. Which is 4K Ultra HD, this is featured in most cinemas worldwide and on New Smart TV's.
Pay Per View is a service where you have to pay a fee to watch something. This feature is available in the UK on Sky Box Office. It could be for a new movie, or it could be for an event. Such as Boxing, UFC or Wrestling which are all available in the UK on Sky Box Office.
Digital recordings can be many things. You can either record audio from a Recording device, you can film a recording on a Digital Camera or it could even be a digital recording of a TV Show you missed, so you have recorded it. This feature is available on all paid services such as Sky and Virgin TV.
Consumer Products are products that a company/business have created to make more money from a Movie/TV Show or event. For example when Disney release a new film, such as Frozen. They will make a profit from box office and DVD sales. But they will also create toys, clothing and other items to make more of a profit from the movie.
